ON LOOKING TO THE FUTURE...

With events on hold for the foreseeable future, I’m working from home like many others. I’ve been focused on rethinking how Hobbs can continue to connect with customers and our press partners with the same buzz as our events, but in a way that addresses this ‘new world' we find ourselves in. It's keeping me very busy!

ON STAYING UPBEAT...

I’ve set up a workstation with my flatmate at the dining table, but I’ll sometimes work from other places in the flat too. In the initial weeks of lockdown we listened to the radio, as it was comforting to hear DJs chatting in a similar manner to the breaktime conversations I'd have with colleagues at work. Then, as the weeks went on, the music played became a bit repetitive so we’ve migrated to balancing the radio with listening to our favourite albums and tracks.

Heavy, California – Jungle

This takes me back to a glorious summer's eve watching Jungle live with friends at Glastonbury. A perfect moment absorbed in a crowd brimming with energy and joy as the sun set behind us, igniting the golden stage. A moment I hope to experience again in the not too distant future.

A serene beach scene with a pink and blue sky is evoked by Kavery Musgraves, Oh What A World.

Oh, What a World – Kacey Musgraves

In Australia, a few hours south of Sydney, there is a place called Hyams beach in Jervis Bay – one my favorite places in the world. If you wake up early and head to the beach you can witness a sunrise that illuminates the sky in magnificent shades of pinks and purples. Oh, what a world indeed!

Ventura Highway – America

It’s impossible to listen to this and not daydream of summer road trips. This song specifically reminds me of a trip I made from Las Vegas to Joshua Tree through the Mojave desert. The trip ended with a night at an isolated cabin where you could observe the sun glide beyond the horizon over the vast expanse of the desert.

A disco classic by ultimate icon, Diana Ross

My Old Piano – Diana Ross

I’m inclined to recall the music video, when I listen to this gem of a tune. There is a slight parallel between the scene of Diana alone in a room full of pot plants dancing around a piano and my own present reality. Because at the moment I'm mainly dancing alone, my laptop is essentially my piano, and I now find myself a full time plant parent.

Never Knew Love Like This Before – Stephanie Mills

This optimistic melody has me imagining a future where we’re allowed to physically connect with friends and family again. Personally, I’m looking forward to catching up with my good friend Titus who I’d usually go on walks with, but can't because he's based at my Dad's. We’ve stayed in touch via Facetime and I’ve assured him we’ll be united soon, although I know he struggles with being patient.
