With regular washing, your linen pieces will become softer and more absorbent. Wash separately on low temperatures in lukewarm or cold water. Use a gentle cycle and a mild detergent to protect the fibres. Always check the care label before washing your linen pieces.
To dry your linen naturally, hang it on the washing line or lie flat, ensuring you take it out of the washing machine quickly before wrinkles set in. Alternatively, tumble dry it at a low temperature until it's slightly damp ‒ to avoid the linen becoming stiff ‒ then air dry.
Natural creases and crumples are what give linen its distinct texture and relaxed finish. But if your linen garment does need pressing, here's how. Iron while the fabric is still damp, using a medium-hot iron on the steam setting. White linen is better ironed on both sides. Dark linen should be pressed only on the reverse.
Hang or lay linen in a cool, dry place, avoiding plastic bags, cardboard boxes and cedar chests. When you pack it away for winter, keep it as flat as possible. When you take it out of storage, refresh it with a good airing and wash.
